Mayor Ras J. Baraka, the Newark Municipal Council, Acting Deputy Mayor/Director of Economic and Housing Development Carmelo Garcia, and Newark Community Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Aisha Glover will break ground for the latest phase in the Riverfront Park expansion on Thursday, October 26, at 11:00 a.m., on Centre Place where it meets the Passaic River by the FBI building, in downtown Newark.
Amenities in this section of the park will include seating steps, amphitheater, riparian gardens, children's rock climbing wall, dog runs, picnic tables, garden gallery, urban beach and more. Riverfront Park first opened in the Ironbound in 2012. A second phase opened the following year and a third is currently under construction. This phase will expand the park into the downtown up to Bridge Street. Future phases will bring the park and walkway all the way up to Lower Broadway.
