Aisha leads NCEDC as the City of Newark’s economic catalyst by strengthening small businesses, supporting a thriving entrepreneurial base and attracting businesses in emerging markets.
Ms. Glover has over 15 years of experience as a convener, champion and agent for economic empowerment and social justice. Prior to joining the Newark team, Aisha served as the VP of External Affairs at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, the nonprofit organization that manages the city-owned Brooklyn Navy Yard, a national model for sustainable industrial park. There, she oversaw strategic partnership development, community engagement, public affairs and fundraising and played a key role in supporting the Yard’s growing economic development initiatives. Ms. Glover’s impact there was informed by her tenure at the Center for the Urban Environment, New York City’s largest provider of environmental education programs. There, she led a team that furthered the Center’s environmental justice and education initiatives, helped create a local chapter of the Small Business Alliance, and was instrumental in launching Green Brooklyn, the borough’s first and largest sustainability event.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Hunter College of the City University of New York, a Masters of Public Administration from Baruch College of the City University of New York and an executive leadership certificate from the Columbia Business School, School of Social Enterprise.
Senior Vice President of Real Estate
Born in Newark New Jersey’s Beth Israel Hospital, Franklyn was raised in West Ward with his family. He started a career in real estate as an agent with Citi-habitats in Manhattan. The company was acquired by Corcoran, owned at the time by Barbara Corcoran formerly of the popular tv series, Shark Tank. Afterwards, Franklyn worked for the famed Village Voice Newspaper conglomerate as a advertising and marketing sales executive whereby he targeted real estate brokerage firms within emerging neighborhoods such as: Fort Greene, DUMBO, Harlem, Long Island City, the Bronx and Jersey City. Franklyn notes, he literally experienced the Lower East Side, Hell’s Kitchen, Harlem, the East Village, and Brooklyn gentrify. It was this work which inspired the desire to improve blighted neighborhoods as a real estate development professional. Afterwards, he pursued a master's degree in urban policy and management where he focused on housing policy and development. While attending the New School University, he also worked 10 years as an real agent with Douglas Elliman within the new developments division. At Douglass Elliman, Franklyn was an agent of luxury high rise redevelopment projects in Long Island City, Downtown Brooklyn, Chelsea and the Downtown Manhattan Beekman Hotel Condo with Fredrick Eklund from the tv series, Million Dollar Listing.
Upon graduation from the New School, Franklyn worked at the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA) for eight years doing acquisitions, environmental work, neighborhood plans; community outreach, vacant property rehabilitation and innovative new construction projects. While at the JCRA, Franklyn focused on re-positioning retail shopping centers, including lease up, affordable housing, mixed income community policies, strategic infill developments within emerging markets. He has almost twenty years real estate experience and has managed & developed over $50 M in redevelopment projects.
